Jessie Herrmann is the Director of Government Relations for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She oversees all matters of public policy and interaction between UNL and local, state, and federal elected officials and governmental agencies. Jessie is responsible for UNL’s state legislative agenda before the Nebraska Unicameral as well as the university’s federal research and appropriation priorities before Congress.

Jessie comes to UNL with over 15 years of experience in government relations, policy, and advocacy at all levels of government. She began her career in politics as an intern for U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel and legal clerk for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. She worked on Capitol Hill from 2009 to 2014 as a legislative assistant for U.S. Senator Mike Crapo from Idaho before returning home to Nebraska. She honed her state legislative skills by serving as the Director of Research and Outreach for the Platte Institute and Vice President of Legal & Government Affairs for Nebraska Cattlemen.

An Omaha native, Jessie received her B.S. in journalism at the University of Kansas and her J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law. She is an active member of the Nebraska State Bar Association and serves on the Executive Committee for APLU’s Council on Government Affairs. Jessie and her husband Andy are the proud parents of daughter Lucy Grace.
