Founded in 1914 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, Omicron Delta Kappa is a national leadership honor society that has initiated more than 300,000 members since its founding by 15 student and faculty members. The Society recognizes not only academic achievement but also campus leadership across the five phases of campus life, which we refer to as the Pillars of Leadership:
Campus or Community Service, Social or Religious Activities, and Campus Government
Journalism, Speech and the Mass Media
Creative and Performing Arts
One thing that makes the Society unique is that—in addition to undergraduate students—membership is open to faculty, staff, alumni and graduate students. We believe that a diverse cross-section of the campus community strengthens each circle and allows students to learn from people in different stages of life.
