Why did you choose Classics?
During my freshman year, I was stressed about wasting scholarship money since I was undeclared. So, I printed out a list of all the majors and started to narrow it down. History and Classics were the final two, and after asking friends and family what they saw me doing, I ended up choosing Classics. It helped that I had taken 4 years of Latin in high school and eventually I decided to double major in Classical Languages. I also received a math minor because my freshman year math courses. I took Calc 3 and Diff Eq, and was told I could get retroactive credit for the Calculus sequence, allowing me to get a minor.
What has been your favorite course in Classics?
Sparta: I loved the leadership role I had and game show aspects of the class. The class was set up as a giant group project, and it was fun to be put in charge of my group to help lead us to the best possible grade.
Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
Dr. Matthew Loar has had a big impact on me as my major advisor, and he along with Dr. Lippman and Dr. Renberg, are who I aspire to be as I attempt to become a professor myself. Dr. Michael Lippman’s impacts on me also have come both in and outside of the class room, as the professor I studied abroad with, did my capstone under, and am currently doing research with, the amount of time I have had him as a professor has been invaluable to pushing me to higher scholastic heights. Dr. Gil Renberg has had an impact on me in the classroom, as he is a professor I admire for his knowledge and collected demeanor.
Do you have any research experience?
I am currently working on an EBook about the performance history of an ancient Greek tragedy, Sophocles's Antigone.
Do you have any work or internship experience?
I am an RA at University Suites, and my major has helped me enhance my leadership skills and my interpersonal skills.
Have you studied abroad?
I went to Greece in the summer of 2018 with Dr. Lippman.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to take a year off to focus on graduate school applications and work. After this year I plan on going to graduate school to get my Master’s and then work towards my Doctorate with the end goal of becoming a professor myself.
