Registered Behavior Training Online Course

This 40+ hour training is a free, self-directed, online training which fulfills the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s (BACB) eligibility training requirements toward attaining a Registered Behavior TechnicianTM (RBTTM) credential. An RBT is a paraprofessional, teacher or practitioner who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). For more information on becoming an RBT please visit the BACB website.

The ASD Network and our Tri-State partners developed and offer the 40-hour Registered Behavior Technician course to provide good content on evidence-based practices related to principles of applied behavior analysis. It is a great course for teachers, para educators, and others who want to learn more about the measurement, assessment, and skills related to behavior reduction practices.

To work as a Registered Behavior Technician - RBT, an individual needs to be under the ongoing supervision of a BCBA. Therefore, we do not recommend completing the additional steps to RBT certification following the course unless you are currently working with a BCBA and providing services in a setting where RBT certification is required. For example, if you are working as an RBT for a private ABA company, RBT certification is necessary for insurance and billing purposes.

This is not always the case in school settings.  Often paras or others are not under the ongoing superivsion of a BCBA.  However, they can still take the course for the content – and not do the additional steps to becoming a Registered Behavior Technician.  Trying to work and maintain your status as an RBT can sometimes be a barrier in school settings because the RBT  has to continually be under the supervision of the BCBA.  This is the case while obtaining certification and maintaining the certification.

Working with a BCBA is NOT a requirement to take the course for professional development CEUs.
