PSI Heuermann Graduate Recognition Award 2024

The goal of the PSI Heuermann Graduate Recognition Award is to honor students who have distinguished themselves in terms of research productivity, professional accomplishments, and public service to their profession.

  • Eligibility: Masters or Doctoral students in PSI labs are eligible to apply.
  • Evaluation Criteria
    • Record of publication, research product (e.g. databases, R-packages), and grant productivity
    • Internal and external scientific presentations
    • Contribution to the broader plant science community and general public
  • Application Requirements
  • Student documents (documents 1 and 2 should be bound into a single PDF): Submit the document through https://forms.office.com/r/EfYmzSxg0z
    • CV
    • Research statement (1 page limit) addressing the following:
      • How the research contributes to PSI vision and mission (https://www.unl.edu/psi/vision-and-mission)
      • Description of current and past research accomplishments, emphasizing work done at UNL in PSI and how the research advances knowledge in the main focal area
      • How the research contributes to overall career plans
      • Description of professional service and outreach activities (e.g. activities with CROPS or public scientific outreach)
  • Letter of reference: the applicant should arrange for a letter of reference (1 page) to be submitted by the student's major advisor (submitted separately by the advisor) to tobata2@unl.edu, emphasizing how their research contributes to advancing knowledge in basic or applied science and their professional service activities.

2024 Timeline

  • Application Open: April 22 (Monday)
  • Application Deadline: May 10 (Friday)
  • A decision will be made at the end of May.

Awardees will be recognized at the Plant Science Retreat in the fall and will have opportunities to present their research in PSI related seminars.
