Karen Babine is an assistant professor of English at the University of Tennessee—Chattanooga, where she teach courses in creative writing and literature.

She recently received a 2023 Outstanding Teacher Award, a system-wide honor from the University of Tennessee. Recipients are selected by their colleagues and students from all UT campuses.

She is the author of two books of creative nonfiction, Water and What We Know: Following the Roots of a Northern Life and All the Wild Hungers: A Season of Cooking and Cancer, both winners of the Minnesota Book Award for memoir/creative nonfiction. Her third book is forthcoming from Milkweed Editions.
