Major: English
Minor: Art
Year in school: Freshman
Hometown: Franklin, NE

Why did you select your major and minor? Were there any experiences that convinced you to declare?
I have always liked to write and read so English was pretty self-explanatory. English was also one of my favorite subjects in school.

What is your favorite course you have taken from your programs and why?
This is only my first semester, so I am going to be choosing from 5 classes. So far I really like my Women and Gender in USA History. It focuses on how women have progressed throughout the years. It makes me feel empowered and proud to be a woman so I recommend others to take it as well.

Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
My sister is a really big role model in my life. I have always looked up to her and I actually followed in her footsteps in coming to UNL. I haven't met that many people here since starting college but Kathleen Lacey has helped me so much with transitioning from high school to an incredible college experience.

Have you had an internship/job?
I am about to start an editorial position in the spring for UNL's magazine Laurus and I really hope it helps me towards my English degree.

Did you/are you going to study abroad?
I think I would really like to study abroad because others have said how much fun they had and how educational it was going to a different country.

What are you involved in on campus?
I am involved with sheTribe: an organization dedicated to teach, empower, and inspire young women; Big Red Readers: a book club to read and talk about inspiring stories; and UNL Creative Writing Club: a club to put out your work and receive positive feedback to push your abilities farther.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to join an editorial house, preferably Penguin Random House, and start writing my own novels. I am going to travel to different countries and experience the world.
