GSA Travel Awards Program (GTAP)
The GTAP facilitates and promotes the intellectual and professional development of graduate students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and contributes to the strengthening of the University and its increased prominence in the greater scholarly community.
The GSA Travel Awards Program (GTAP) is not affected by the travel restrictions announced by the University of Nebraska.
Undergrad and graduate students who are presenting original work at an academic conference, or who are performing in an artistic competition or showcase, are eligible to apply for a GTAP grant. Students must be in good academic standing; the student’s adviser is required to sign off on the application.
Students may be awarded one GTAP grant per academic career (i.e. once during undergraduate tenure, once during master’s degree tenure and once during Ph.D. tenure). Students who apply but are not awarded a GTAP may re-apply during future award cycles.
The application for the GSA Travel Awards Program can be accessed on NUgrant at least 60 days prior to the application deadline.
- Login using your Canvas username and password.
- From among Open Internal Competitions, select GSA Travel Awards Program Application.
- Answer the questions about your project and your conference, and upload your short essay. For guidance, applicants may consult the sample application that contains a commentary from the reviewer's perspective.
- When you have finished yoru application, NUGrant will send a notification to your academic adviser. He or she must approve your application before it will be considered. The GTAP team does NOT monitor this step, so it is up to you to ensure that your adviser has approved the application by the deadline, below.

GTAP Peer Reviewer Application
Applications are blindly reviewed by peer and faculty reviewers, who serve as volunteers. Graduate students may apply to serve as peer reviewers for the GTAP. The reviewer application should be submitted at least one week prior to the GTAP application deadline.
GTAP funds cannot be distributed prior to conference travel. Students who are awarded a GTAP grant must submit travel-related receipts and an employee expense voucher should be submitted no later than thirty (30) calendar days from the last day of travel (Cost object: ASUN Graduate Travel Awards Program). Further instructions will be provided to awardees.
