Westbrook Music Building will not be open to students until Monday, August 10. Students will not be able to pick up instruments until then. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Instrument and/or locker charges will be applied to your student account ONLY if you are on the final roster. Instruments are not available for checkout at any time outside of the marching band season. University instruments are to be used for Cornhusker Marching Band (CMB), Big Red Express (BRE), or Spring Drumline (SDL) events and performances ONLY. University instruments may not be used for non-university performances, employment, or activities. All instruments are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Instruments will be available during the first week of August (3-9) ONLY IF the form is submitted by noon Friday, July 17. If the form is submitted after July 17, the instrument will be available after August 10.
Your My.UNL ID is required to log onto the instrument and locker request forms. Click on the link below if you are a new student who needs to activate your account for the first time.
NOTE: CONCERT ENSEMBLE INSTRUMENTS and LOCKERS are to be rented through Dayana Corredor, WMB 119.1. The GKSOM INSTRUMENT AND LOCKER RENTAL REQUEST Form may be found HERE.
MANDATORY INSTRUMENT RENTAL
The following marching band instruments must be rented from the Glenn Korff School of Music for the marching band season. The rental fee is $20.00 per semester and includes a locker. All instruments are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last for the second round of auditions in August.
- horn (mellophone)
- bass trombone
- tuba (sousaphone)
OPTIONAL INSTRUMENT AND LOCKER RENTAL
All other marching band instruments may be rented from the Glenn Korff School of Music. The rental fee is $20.00 per semester and includes a locker. All instruments are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Students using personal instruments may rent lockers in Westbrook Music Building for $10.00 per semester. Padlocks are provided for all lockers. Lockers are issued on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The locker rental fee will be applied to your student account only if you are on the final marching band roster.
INSTRUMENT CHECKOUT POLICY
University owned marching band instruments are not available for checkout prior to August. Students must be enrolled in the marching band course meeting the full-time student status before an instrument will be assigned. Instruments and lockers will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
- Mouthpieces may be included with each instrument, however, if you are particular about your mouthpiece, it is best to use your own. Please indicate on the instrument request form whether or not you require a mouthpiece.
- Saxophone players must provide their own neck strap.
- You must provide valve oil, key oil, slide cream, rotor oil, etc., and cleaning cloth for the proper maintenance and care of the instrument.
- Please keep a towel or soft cloth in the instrument case at all times.
BRASS, WOODWIND, & BATTERY PERCUSSION INSTRUMENT & LOCKER RENTAL PROCEDURE
Complete and submit the online Instrument Request and Rental Agreement form OR Locker Only Request and Rental Agreement form by 12:00 noon Friday, July 17. Note: Requests received after July 17 will be processed at a later date and instruments will not be available until after August 10 depending on when the request is submitted.
A locker number and combination will be included in a confirmation email sent sometime between August 3-7. Once you receive the confirmation email you may pick up the instrument from your assigned locker during regular Westbrook Music Building hours. Please be patient and wait for the email as it may not arrive immediately on August 3. If you submitted the form by July 17 and have not received an email by August 7, please check your spam folder before contacting the Band Office. If the instrument request has been submitted after July 17, you will receive the email sometime after August 10 depending on when the request was submitted.
The $20.00 per semester instrument rental and the $20.00 percussion equipment fee (if applicable) will be applied to your student account only if you are on the final marching band roster.
FRONT ENSEMBLE INSTRUMENT RENTAL PROCEDURE
Front Ensemble percussionists DO NOT complete the instrument request form. The $20.00 per semester instrument rental and the $20.00 percussion equipment fee will be applied to your student account.
INSTRUMENT AND LOCKER CHECK-IN DUE DATE:THE INSTRUMENT AND LOCKER DUE DATE will be determined by participation in the CMB and Big Red Express (BRE) (if applicable). Due to the constantly changing climate resulting from COVID-19, the instrument due date will be made available later on in the semester. The instrument due date will be posted on Canvas and students will be notified via email. NOTE: Late fees and a registration/records hold will be applied if the instrument and/or locker are not returned by the appropriate due date.
Those who are also members of BRE or SDL have the option of renting the instrument and/or locker for the entire academic year. Please select the appropriate length of rental when submitting the online instrument and/or locker request form. Your student account will be charged accordingly. Keep in mind when requesting the instrument for the entire academic year instrument or locker rental fees are non refundable.
