Dear UNL Community and Friends,
As the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Inclusive Student Excellence and Director of the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center (JGMC), I have the joy of serving as the leader of the JGMC.
Constructed in 2010, JGMC is 30,000 square feet of absolute beauty and was built as the largest multicultural center attached to a student union. We are proud to serve as a shining example of what can be done to serve students, faculty, and staff. The JGMC offers culturally relevant resources and activities supportive of all - there is something here for all no matter your age, identity(ies), or cultural background. We offer clubs, groups, and events geared to help you be a part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus culture.
Within the JGMC, we provide services through the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS), while also supporting students who receive Diversity Enhancement Scholarships. Our office is proud to serve as an “oasis” for students as they seek to find their way on our campus. Through one-on-one connections, our programs provide culturally sensitive retention services and activities that focus on diversity and inclusive excellence, supporting students throughout their academic career. Our office also provides academic support designed to assist and supplement the work that UNL faculty is doing in academic spaces.
Whether you are a prospective student seeking opportunities to connect with multicultural student organizations prior to arrival, or a current student seeking opportunities to engage in discussions on culturally important issues through Dish It Up or desire a short break from the daily hustle and bustle of college life through Stop, Serve & Mingle, we create spaces for learning, civility, and social engagement. We strive to help students thrive throughout their college careers by providing tutors and mentors, hosting study groups and serving as a social hub where they can relax and recharge. Students often call OASIS their “home away from home”.
We invite you to visit us at the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center. This space is for you.
