Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month
Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month is celebrated nationally during the month of May to commemorate the first immigrants who came from Japan on May 7, 1843. It is a time to celebration and uplift Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) identities, experiences, and cultures. Asian Pacific Islander Desi American is an inclusive term to describe the Asian American community that’s comprised of individuals of East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, West Asian, Central Asian and Pacific Island backgrounds who represent over forty countries and hundreds of languages. The Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services aims to celebrate the accomplishments, stories and experiences of those from Asian, Pacific Islander and Desi decent.
